Science 3/4 (Science A)

Science 3/4 (Science A) is the first course in the elementary science series to be offered by Grace Notes Academy.  Highlights of the year will include learning to use a microscope, cracking open a geode to look for crystals, and dissecting an earthworm.  Throughout the year, students will participate in engaging, interesting and downright fun activities and experiments designed to help kids discover for themselves some of the amazing facets of the world in which we live.  Topics covered will include the following:

• How Scientists Group Animals
• Animal Kingdom
• Plant Cells and Photosynthesis
• Skin:  How it Works & Fingerprint Analysis
• Physics:  Work and Energy
• Minerals, Rocks and Soil

The text we will use is Bob Jones Science 3, third edition.  It is colorful and interesting as well as being academically challenging.  Bob Jones books are written from a strong Christian point of view and a creationist standpoint.  Each student will need to purchase their own textbook, Student Activity Manual, and Test Packet.  You may also want the Activity Manual Answer Key and the Test Answer Key, since parents will be grading the Activity Manual pages and the tests.  These are readily available from homeschool online stores, such as Rainbow Resources (www.rainbowresource.com).

**Note:  We are using Bob Jones as our "spine" text.  This means that it will form the large part of the students' reading, but I will also supplement with class handouts when we need to delve more deeply into a subject than the Bob Jones text does.
